Meet The JDM School of Dance Team
Since the age of three, Julie Dickens, Artistic Director, has loved dance. Her first exposure to dance was at Kester’s School of Dance in Weirton, WV.
Julie was a student teacher and a competitive dancer for six years at Sandra Lynn’s School of Dance. She has trained in a variety of dance styles including: jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, hip hop, modern and pointe. Julie has also traveled to many dance workshops to attend master classes with Savion Glover, Gregory Hines, Gus Giordano, Pamela Bowling, Karen Hebert, Nan Giordano and Charles Kelly.
Julie graduated from Radford University in 1998 with a Biology/Chemistry Degree and Dance Minor. While attending Radford University, Julie danced for the RU Rockers Dance team, performing for the Men’s and Women’s Highlander Basketball games.
In 1998, Julie began teaching dance at New Castle Dane and Music Academy, while working in the chemistry field. Julie, then, obtained her Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Delaware. In 2003, Julie and her husband, Bill, moved to Dallas, TX. She began her career in Neonatal Nursing. Julie and Bill had their daughter, Marley, in 2007.
Throughout her life, dance has always been in the center of Julie’s heart. When Marley began dance lessons, Julie knew she wanted to pursue her dream of opening her own studio. In doing so, Julie is able to share her passion with her daughter, as well as children and adults in the community.
Julie’s goal is to establish a positive, exciting environment for her students to learn the disciplines of dance. She wants to share both technique and passion with her students.
